When William died, everything stopped. The world lost colour. We were numb. But in the days that followed, something unexpected started to happen.
People moved. They gave. They climbed. They ran. They donated. Friends, strangers, businesses—one after another, they came forward with a shared message: We’re here. We care. We remember him too.
That’s how we raised over £34,500 in William’s name.
Team83—William’s friends who had been on the mountain that day—set a fundraising target. £11,000 by 11th November 2024. One year on from the day William fell.
It felt symbolic. Purposeful. Possible.
They started with a raffle in Bournemouth. Small businesses gave generously. I attended the draw, standing in the room as winners were announced. It was emotional, but it was also the first time I felt something else—hope.
Then they ran. 100km. No small feat. But that’s the kind of people William surrounded himself with—people who push themselves for others.
Motorhome Crack members joined in. Donations rolled in. Friends passed it on. Strangers gave quietly. And bit by bit, something incredible happened.
£11,000 came and went. Then £20,000. Then £30,000.
By the time we closed the fundraiser, we had raised over £34,500.
All in William’s name. All for Llanberis Mountain Rescue. All because people cared.
The money mattered. But what it represented meant even more.
It told us that William’s life had impact. That he left a mark. That his loss wasn’t something felt by just our family—but by a much wider community.
And it proved that when people come together in memory of someone they love, they can move mountains. Or at least climb them. And raise funds for the teams that keep others safe on them.
That fundraiser didn’t just help Llanberis. It gave us something too. It showed us that people were ready to give, to rally, to honour William’s legacy. It showed us that we needed a way to keep that going.
